Which space character should you use?
Thin spaces (Hair Space, Thin Space) add a fine gap between letters or numbers. Wide spaces (Em Space, Ideographic Space) are as wide as a full letter. The no-break space keeps two words on the same line.
Invisible space characters for names
Names and chats often trim normal spaces. For a space that stays, use an invisible space character such as Hangul Filler from the Invisible Name page.
No-break spaces for numbers and units
A no-break space (U+00A0) keeps two words on the same line, such as “100 km” or “$ 50”. A narrow no-break space (U+202F) does the same with a thinner gap and works well as a thousands separator.
Fixed-width spaces in documents and design
In Word, Google Docs or Canva, fixed-width spaces like Em Space line up text without tabs. Their width follows the font size, so spacing stays even when you resize text.
Space copy and paste by width
Copying a space is easier when you know how wide each space character is. Most fixed-width spaces are measured against the font size, so they grow and shrink with your text.

The normal space bar character is U+0020. All the spaces above belong to the same space category, which is why many apps trim them too.
Fake space and invisible space characters
A fake space character looks like a space but is not in the space category. Hangul Filler (U+3164) and Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800) are the two most common examples. Because apps treat them as a letter and a symbol, a normal trim leaves them alone.
That makes them the better choice for invisible space text in names. For example, if you want a space copy for a Free Fire nickname or another game name, a true space usually gets removed, while a filler character often stays. Rules differ by game and can change, so test it before you save.

Tab space and half space copy paste
Tab space copy paste is tricky on the web. In many forms, pressing Tab moves you to the next field, and a pasted tab character (U+0009) is often turned into a single space or removed. If you need a tab-like gap, an Em Space or two usually holds up better.
"Half space" can mean two different things:
- In typography, it usually means the En Space, which is half the width of an Em Space.
- In Persian and some other scripts, a half space is the Zero Width Non-Joiner (
U+200C). It stops two letters from joining without adding a visible gap.
When special spaces cause trouble
Special spaces are useful in design, but they can break things when text needs to be exact. A no-break space in a spreadsheet cell can stop a lookup from matching, and a thin space inside a password will make it fail.
